What it means
The feedback line that monitors the NOx sensor heater current draw on bank 2 sensor 1 jumps or drops out intermittently — connector or harness issue.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
The Bank 2 NOx sensor heater warms the sensor, while its sense circuit lets the control module monitor heater operation. P2225 sets when that feedback signal drops out or changes intermittently, often as a loose or damaged connection moves with vibration.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Intermittent connector
- Connector with intermittent contact under vibration
- Harness routed against vibrating component
Symptoms
- Check engine light or NOx warning on
- AdBlue/DEF level or quality warning
- Possible no-start countdown after ignore period
- Failed emissions inspection (NOx)
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and review Bank 2 heater and NOx readings for intermittent dropouts or changes around the time the fault set.
- Inspect the Bank 2 sensor connector for loose or corroded pins and check the harness where it passes vibrating or hot components.
- With live data displayed, gently move the Bank 2 connector and harness to see whether the heater sense reading or fault status changes.
- Check terminal fit and continuity in the Bank 2 heater sense circuit while flexing the harness to reveal an intermittent break.
- If wiring and connections remain stable, test the Bank 2 NOx sensor heater and feedback circuit using the manufacturer's procedure.
Common fixes
- Reconnect and secure a loose Bank 2 NOx sensor connector.
- Clean corroded terminals or replace terminals that have lost pin tension.
- Repair an intermittently open wire and secure the harness away from vibration or heat.
- Replace the Bank 2 NOx sensor assembly if its heater feedback remains intermittent after circuit repairs.
Can I keep driving?
If the vehicle runs normally, short cautious trips are generally possible, but arrange diagnosis because intermittent heater feedback can disrupt NOx readings and SCR control. Do not ignore an AdBlue/DEF warning or countdown, which may eventually prevent restarting.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
