What it means
The "E" channel signal is below the lower threshold — typically a short to ground or an open signal wire.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
The E channel is one of the position signals used by the electronic throttle or accelerator pedal system to report movement to the control module. P2132 sets when the module sees that channel below its expected range, which can happen if its signal wire is grounded, open, or making poor contact.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal shorted to ground
- Signal wire open
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Reduced throttle response, possible limp mode
- Hesitation or surging
- Idle too high or too low
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and compare E-channel live data with the other position channels while slowly moving the pedal or throttle as appropriate; note when E falls below range.
- With the ignition off, inspect the E-channel wiring and connectors at the relevant pedal or throttle sensor for chafing, corrosion, loose pins, or a disconnected plug.
- Check the E signal wire for continuity and for an unintended short to ground, following the vehicle wiring diagram.
- Check the sensor's power and ground and measure the E signal at the sensor and control-module connector while operating it, comparing results with the manufacturer's specification.
- If wiring and connections test correctly, assess the position sensor and control-module input using the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure.
Common fixes
- Clean and secure corroded or loose sensor connector terminals.
- Repair an open or damaged E-channel signal wire.
- Repair a signal wire shorted to ground.
- Replace a faulty pedal or throttle position sensor assembly if its E output is out of specification.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid driving if throttle response is reduced, surging, or unpredictable; the vehicle may enter a limited-power mode. If response remains normal, drive only as needed to reach a safe place for diagnosis, since a worsening signal fault can leave you with little or no throttle control.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
