What it means
The "D" channel of the throttle or pedal sensor produces an intermittent signal — typically marginal connector contacts.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
The throttle or accelerator-pedal position sensor has multiple signal tracks, and channel D provides one of the module's position readings. P2129 sets when the D signal drops out or changes erratically rather than remaining consistent as the throttle or pedal moves.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Connector intermittent
- Track D worn
- Harness routed against vibrating component
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Reduced throttle response, possible limp mode
- Hesitation or surging
- Idle too high or too low
How to diagnose it
- Read freeze-frame data and graph the D-channel signal alongside the other position channels to identify when the dropout occurs.
- Inspect the D-channel connector and terminals for looseness, corrosion, or signs of movement that could cause an intermittent contact.
- Check the harness route for rubbing or contact with vibrating parts, then gently move the wiring while watching live D-channel data for dropouts.
- If the signal glitch follows pedal or throttle movement, check for a worn or damaged D track across its operating range.
- Test D-channel wiring continuity and terminal fit while flexing suspect sections, following the vehicle wiring diagram and manufacturer's procedures.
Common fixes
- Secure a loose D-channel connector and clean terminals with corrosion.
- Repair chafed or poorly supported wiring that moves against a vibrating component.
- Replace the throttle or pedal position sensor assembly if the D track has worn spots or dropouts.
- Repair a damaged circuit connection identified by continuity and terminal checks.
Can I keep driving?
The signal may recover and fail without warning, causing hesitation or reduced throttle response. Keep trips short and avoid fast traffic or hard acceleration until the intermittent fault is repaired.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
