OBD-II fault code

P0ED3: Hybrid/EV Battery Pack E Voltage Sensor Circuit Range/Performance

What it means

The ECM detects a range/performance fault on the hybrid/ev battery pack e voltage sensor circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The BMS monitors the voltage sensor assigned to battery pack E and checks whether its reported value behaves plausibly against operating conditions and other pack readings. P0ED3 sets when that reading is outside the expected range or response pattern, even if the circuit is not simply open or shorted.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Sensor characteristic drifted
  2. Sensor mounting displaced
  3. Sensor element aged beyond calibration window

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced power output or limp mode
  • Charging may fail or be slowed
  • Reduced electric range

How to diagnose it

  1. Capture freeze-frame data and related hybrid codes to see when the pack E reading became implausible.
  2. Compare live pack E voltage with neighboring pack readings as load or charging conditions change, looking for a mismatch or response that does not track.
  3. With the high-voltage system disabled under the manufacturer's procedure, inspect the pack E sensor seating, connector, and harness for displacement, damage, or poor contact.
  4. Check the sensor output and circuit against the manufacturer's specification to distinguish sensor drift from wiring resistance.
  5. If the sensor and wiring pass, have the cell-group voltage and sensor calibration evaluated using the manufacturer's pack procedure.

Common fixes

  • Correct a displaced sensor or poorly seated connector.
  • Repair damaged or resistive wiring in the pack E sensing circuit.
  • Replace a pack E sensor that has drifted outside its calibrated range.
  • Repair or service the affected cell group if testing confirms imbalance.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid hard acceleration and long journeys because power, charging, and electric range may be restricted. If a stop warning appears, the vehicle loses drive, or you notice unusual heat or smell, stop safely and arrange recovery.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
