What it means
The BMS detects that multiple HV battery voltage sensor readings disagree beyond calibration. SOC/SOH calculations unreliable.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The battery management system (BMS) compares voltage readings from multiple sensors monitoring the high-voltage battery pack. P0ED1 sets when those readings disagree beyond the system's calibrated tolerance, making its estimates of battery charge and health unreliable.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Sensor offsets drifted
- Sense wire resistance high
- Pack cell imbalance approaching service threshold
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and scan all hybrid and battery codes first, because related codes can point to a shared pack or measurement problem.
- Compare live readings from the pack voltage sensors under the conditions shown in the freeze frame to identify which readings disagree.
- With the vehicle powered down according to the manufacturer's safety procedure, inspect accessible sense-wire connections and harnesses for looseness, corrosion, damage, or signs of high resistance.
- Have the pack's cell-group voltages checked and compared with the manufacturer's specification to see whether imbalance is contributing to the disagreement.
- If wiring and cell balance do not explain the mismatch, have the BMS sensor offsets and pack measurements checked using the manufacturer's procedures.
Common fixes
- Repair a loose, corroded, or damaged battery sense-wire connection.
- Repair high-resistance sections of the voltage-sensing harness.
- Correct cell-group imbalance if pack testing confirms it and the manufacturer's service procedure allows it.
- Replace or recalibrate an out-of-tolerance voltage sensor using the manufacturer's procedure.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid long trips and hard acceleration; the vehicle may limit power, and charging or electric range may be reduced. If the hybrid system warning is accompanied by a stop warning, loss of drive, unusual heat, or a burning smell, stop safely and arrange recovery.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
