OBD-II fault code

P0ED5: Generator Phase X Current Sensor Circuit Range/Performance

What it means

The measured current in generator phase X is lower than expected. The module sets this code when phase current remains below its calibrated threshold during monitoring.

How it works

The hybrid control system measures current in generator phase X and checks that it reaches the expected level during monitored operation. P0ED5 sets when the measured phase X current stays below its calibrated threshold, which can indicate a sensing, wiring, generator, or inverter problem.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Faulty phase current sensor
  2. Open or high-resistance phase wiring
  3. Generator winding fault
  4. Inverter fault

Symptoms

  • Hybrid system warning light
  • Reduced power
  • Reduced or unavailable regenerative braking
  • Charging may be limited

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and scan related generator and inverter codes to learn when phase X current fell below expectation.
  2. Compare live phase X current with phases Y and Z under the same operating conditions to check whether the low reading is phase-specific.
  3. With the high-voltage system disabled by the manufacturer's procedure, inspect phase X wiring and connections for an open, damage, corrosion, or loose terminal.
  4. Test the phase X current sensor circuit for continuity and excessive resistance using the manufacturer's wiring diagram and specifications.
  5. If the circuit passes, have the generator phase X winding and inverter output tested to locate the source of genuinely low current.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect or repair an open or high-resistance phase X wiring connection.
  • Replace a faulty phase X current sensor if its signal remains low with sound wiring.
  • Repair the generator winding if testing confirms a phase X winding fault.
  • Repair or replace the inverter if its phase X output is confirmed below specification.

Can I keep driving?

Limit driving and avoid hard acceleration; generator output and regenerative braking may be reduced, and the vehicle may limit power or charging. If braking behavior changes, a stop warning appears, or the vehicle loses drive, stop safely and arrange recovery.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
