What it means
The monitored current in generator phase X is outside the expected condition. The module sets this code when phase current monitoring detects a fault.
How it works
The hybrid control system monitors current in generator phase X through its current-sensing circuit. P0ED4 sets when phase X current monitoring detects an abnormal condition, without specifying the low or high direction.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Faulty phase current sensor
- Damaged phase wiring or connector
- Generator or inverter fault
- Control module fault
Symptoms
- Hybrid system warning light
- Reduced power
- Reduced or unavailable regenerative braking
- Charging may be limited
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and scan for inverter, generator, and phase-current codes to establish the operating condition and whether other phases are affected.
- Compare live phase X current with phases Y and Z during the same operating conditions to identify whether the anomaly is isolated to X.
- With the high-voltage system disabled according to the manufacturer's procedure, inspect phase X sensor connections and wiring for damage, looseness, or corrosion.
- Check the phase X sensor circuit and connector integrity against the wiring diagram and manufacturer's specifications.
- If the circuit passes, have the generator windings and inverter checked for a phase-specific fault before suspecting the control module.
Common fixes
- Repair a loose or damaged phase X sensor connector or harness.
- Replace a faulty phase X current sensor after circuit checks confirm the sensor is at fault.
- Repair the generator winding fault if testing identifies one.
- Repair or replace the inverter only after phase wiring and sensor checks isolate it as the cause.
Can I keep driving?
Drive only as needed to reach a safe place or service location, and avoid hard acceleration because power, charging, or regenerative braking may be reduced. If braking feel changes, a stop warning appears, or power drops sharply, stop safely and arrange recovery.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
