What it means
The cell balancing circuit C reports a stuck on condition. Cell-group voltage equalization may be impaired on this channel.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Circuit C operates balancing switches for its assigned battery cell groups, and the battery management system checks that the channel deactivates when requested. P0DB5 means circuit C appears to stay active after an off command, potentially disturbing balance in the C-associated groups.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Balancing switch stuck on
- Battery pack or BMS internal fault
- Wiring or connector fault
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and battery-management codes, then verify that circuit C was commanded off while its status still showed activity.
- Compare voltage changes in the cell groups assigned to C with other groups to check for a pattern consistent with continued balancing.
- With the vehicle safely powered down per the manufacturer's procedure, inspect accessible circuit C wiring and connectors for shorts, pinching, corrosion, or moisture.
- Have a qualified technician test the C circuit for an unintended path and check whether its switch releases, following the manufacturer's specification.
- If the harness is sound, have the battery pack and battery management system checked for an internally stuck circuit C switch.
Common fixes
- Repair a shorted or pinched circuit C wire.
- Clean and secure a circuit C connector with confirmed corrosion or poor contact.
- Replace a circuit C balancing switch confirmed to remain active.
- Repair or replace an internal battery-management component only if pack testing confirms the fault.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid long trips, heavy loads, and unattended charging until circuit C is diagnosed, since continued balancing may worsen cell-group imbalance and trigger operating limits. Stop safely for a severe battery warning, and do not open or probe the high-voltage pack.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
