What it means
The cell balancing circuit B reports a stuck on condition. Cell-group voltage equalization may be impaired on this channel.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Circuit B switches balancing components for its assigned cell groups, and the battery management system checks that the circuit turns off when commanded. P0DB1 sets when circuit B appears to remain active despite an off command, which can disturb the voltage balance of those groups.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Balancing switch stuck on
- Battery pack or BMS internal fault
- Wiring or connector fault
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Capture freeze-frame data and battery-management codes, then confirm whether circuit B was commanded off while its status remained active.
- Compare circuit B cell-group voltage changes and balancing status with neighboring channels to see whether the effect is isolated to B.
- With the vehicle safely powered down according to the manufacturer's procedure, inspect accessible circuit B connectors and wiring for shorts, damage, corrosion, or moisture.
- Have a qualified technician test circuit B for an unintended electrical path or a switch that does not release, using the manufacturer's specification.
- If the harness is not shorted, have the battery management system and pack tested for an internally stuck circuit B balancing switch.
Common fixes
- Repair a shorted, pinched, or damaged circuit B wire.
- Clean and secure a circuit B connector with confirmed contamination or poor contact.
- Replace a circuit B balancing switch confirmed to remain on.
- Repair or replace the battery-management component only if pack-level testing confirms an internal fault.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid extended trips, high loads, and unattended charging until circuit B is checked, as unintended balancing can worsen cell-group imbalance or prompt power and charging limits. Stop safely if the vehicle displays a severe battery warning, and do not open or touch high-voltage components.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
