OBD-II fault code

P0DC1: Hybrid/EV Battery Cell Balancing Circuit F Stuck On

What it means

The cell balancing circuit F reports a stuck on condition. Cell-group voltage equalization may be impaired on this channel.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The BMS switches circuit F on and off to balance the cell groups assigned to that channel. P0DC1 sets when the F balancing switch or driver remains active when the BMS expects it to be off, possibly because the switch or driver is stuck on or the circuit wiring is shorted.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Balancing switch or driver stuck on
  2. Shorted balancing-circuit wiring
  3. BMS driver fault

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced power output or limp mode
  • Charging may fail or be slowed
  • Reduced electric range

How to diagnose it

  1. Check freeze-frame and BMS live data for circuit F, noting whether the command is off while the associated cell-group readings suggest continued balancing.
  2. Compare F-associated cell-group voltage and temperature against neighboring groups for unusual discharge or heating.
  3. With the high-voltage system safely disabled according to the manufacturer's procedure, inspect F-channel wiring and connectors for shorts, contamination, or heat damage.
  4. Test the F balancing circuit for a short and verify whether its switch or driver turns off as commanded using the manufacturer's procedure.
  5. If wiring passes, have the BMS driver and battery-pack F-channel circuitry tested for an internal stuck-on fault.

Common fixes

  • Repair shorted or damaged circuit F wiring.
  • Clean and secure a contaminated or poorly seated F-channel connector.
  • Replace a confirmed F balancing switch or driver that remains on.
  • Repair or replace the BMS or battery-pack assembly if internal testing confirms the driver fault.

Can I keep driving?

Limit driving and avoid charging if there is a battery-temperature warning, reduced power, or worsening hybrid/EV alert, because a stuck-on F path can worsen imbalance or heat. Stop safely if warnings escalate and arrange prompt battery-system diagnosis.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
