What it means
The ECM detects a circuit fault on the drive motor b inverter voltage sensor a circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Drive motor B's inverter converts the vehicle's high-voltage battery power into controlled electrical power for the motor. Inverter voltage sensor A monitors a voltage in that drive motor B inverter, and this code sets when the control module detects a fault in sensor A's circuit and cannot rely on its reading for motor control.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Sensor failed
- Wiring or connector fault
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced motor power or torque
- Possible limp mode or vehicle shutdown
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and note any hybrid or EV warnings, reduced-power events, or shutdown conditions before clearing codes.
- Check live data for drive motor B inverter voltage sensor A and compare its status with related inverter readings using the vehicle's diagnostic information.
- Visually inspect accessible low-voltage sensor A wiring and connectors for damage, corrosion, or poor seating without touching high-voltage components.
- Have the sensor A circuit tested against the manufacturer's specification using the vehicle's required high-voltage safety procedures.
- If the wiring and sensor test correctly, check the inverter and control-module input according to the vehicle's diagnostic procedure.
Common fixes
- Reseat a loose low-voltage inverter sensor A connector.
- Repair damaged or corroded sensor A circuit wiring.
- Replace drive motor B inverter voltage sensor A if it fails testing.
- Repair or replace a confirmed faulty inverter or module input component.
Can I keep driving?
Reduced motor power or an unexpected shutdown is possible, so avoid high speeds, hard acceleration, and trips where stopping safely would be difficult. If the vehicle shows a hybrid or EV warning with loss of power, stop in a safe place and arrange assistance; do not handle high-voltage components.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
