What it means
The ECM detects a low fault on the battery charger a coupler lock position sensor circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The battery charger A coupler lock position sensor signals whether the charging connector is locked. This code sets when the circuit signal is lower than the control module expects, which can result from a signal short to ground or an internally shorted sensor.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Internal sensor short
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Charge status indicator shows fault
- Charging may not start or interrupts
- Slower-than-expected charge rate
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and check live lock-position status; an implausibly low reading when the coupler is unlocked and locked points to a low-signal fault.
- Inspect the charger A lock-position sensor connector for corrosion or poor pin contact, and check its signal wire for damage or a short to ground.
- With the vehicle made safe according to its service information, test the sensor signal circuit for a short to ground and check connector continuity.
- Test the lock-position sensor against the manufacturer's specification to distinguish an internal short from a wiring fault.
- If the sensor and harness pass, check the related module input using the vehicle's diagnostic information.
Common fixes
- Clean corroded lock-sensor connector pins and reseat the connector.
- Repair a signal wire short to ground or damaged harness.
- Replace the charger A lock-position sensor if it tests internally shorted.
- Repair a confirmed fault in the module input circuit.
Can I keep driving?
Charging may not start or may stop because the vehicle may not recognize the charger A coupler's lock position. Do not force or bypass the lock; use charging only when the connector seats and locks normally.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
