What it means
The battery pack cooling fan 2 sense circuit signal is above the expected range. The code does not identify a particular wiring-damage pattern or test procedure.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Battery pack cooling fan 2 moves air through the high-voltage battery area, and its sense circuit returns fan-speed feedback to the control module. P0D62 sets when that feedback signal is above the expected range, which may leave the module unable to verify fan 2 operation correctly.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Sense wire shorted to B+
- Open tachometer
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and related fan or battery cooling codes to identify when the high fan 2 feedback was recorded.
- Compare fan 2 command with reported speed in live data and note whether feedback stays high when the fan is not commanded.
- Inspect fan 2 sense-circuit wiring for contact with battery positive and check its connector for corrosion or damaged terminals.
- Test the sense circuit for a short to power and check the connector and wiring for excessive resistance using the manufacturer's procedure.
- If the circuit is sound, test the fan 2 tachometer output and control-module input using vehicle-specific service information.
Common fixes
- Clean or secure corroded or loose fan 2 sense-circuit terminals.
- Repair a sense wire shorted to battery positive or other damaged wiring.
- Replace fan 2 if its tachometer output is confirmed open or faulty.
- Repair the control-module circuit only if testing identifies a fault there.
Can I keep driving?
Limit driving and avoid high loads or hot conditions, since the module may not be able to confirm battery cooling and may restrict power or charging. Stop safely if a battery warning or reduced-power mode occurs.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
