What it means
The HV battery pack cooling fan 2 sense circuit reports a sense circuit/open fault.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Battery pack cooling fan 2 moves air to help control high-voltage battery temperature, while its sense circuit reports fan-speed feedback to the control module. P0D5F sets when that feedback circuit is detected as open, so the module cannot reliably confirm fan 2 speed.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Open in sense wire
- Fan tachometer failed
- Pin pushed back out of connector body
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and scan for related battery cooling or fan codes to see when the fan 2 feedback fault occurred.
- Use live data to compare the commanded state and reported speed of battery cooling fan 2, if available.
- Inspect the fan 2 sense-wire route and connector for damage, corrosion, a loose lock, or a terminal pushed back into the connector.
- Check continuity through the fan 2 sense wire and its connections using the manufacturer's circuit test procedure.
- If the wiring is intact, test fan 2 tachometer feedback and the control-module input according to the vehicle-specific service information.
Common fixes
- Reseat the fan 2 connector and restore any backed-out terminal.
- Repair an open or damaged fan 2 sense wire.
- Clean or replace corroded fan 2 connector terminals.
- Replace the fan 2 assembly if its tachometer output is confirmed faulty.
Can I keep driving?
Limit driving, especially in hot weather, at high speed, or under heavy load, because the battery may not be cooled correctly and the vehicle may reduce power. If a hybrid/EV warning or reduced-power mode appears, stop safely and follow the vehicle's instructions.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
