OBD-II fault code

P0D60: Hybrid/EV Battery Pack Cooling Fan 2 Sense Circuit Range/Performance

What it means

The HV battery pack cooling fan 2 sense circuit reports a sense range/performance fault.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Battery pack cooling fan 2 helps regulate high-voltage battery temperature, and its sense circuit feeds fan-speed feedback to the control module. P0D60 sets when that feedback is present but falls outside the expected range or response, rather than being clearly open or simply too low or high.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Feedback drifted
  2. High-resistance contact
  3. Sensor element aged beyond calibration window

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced power output or limp mode
  • Charging may fail or be slowed
  • Reduced electric range

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and related battery cooling codes to identify the conditions when fan 2 feedback went out of range.
  2. Compare fan 2 command and reported speed in live data, checking whether the mismatch changes with the command.
  3. Inspect fan 2 wiring and connectors for corrosion, looseness, terminal damage, or signs of a poor contact.
  4. Check the sense-wire connections and ground/reference path for excessive resistance using the manufacturer's specifications.
  5. If the circuit checks out, test the fan 2 tachometer output for drift and verify the control-module input using the vehicle-specific procedure.

Common fixes

  • Reseat and secure the fan 2 connector.
  • Clean or replace terminals with high-resistance contact.
  • Repair damaged wiring or a poor ground/reference connection in the fan 2 sense circuit.
  • Replace fan 2 if its feedback remains outside the manufacturer's calibration range.

Can I keep driving?

Keep trips short and avoid high loads or hot conditions until the battery cooling fault is resolved, since battery temperature protection may reduce power or charging. Stop safely if the vehicle enters reduced-power mode or displays a battery system warning.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
