OBD-II fault code

P0B1E: Hybrid/EV Battery Pack Voltage Sense D Circuit

What it means

The control module detects a fault in the hybrid/EV battery pack voltage sense D circuit. The code alone does not identify whether the cause is the sensing circuit or its connections.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The battery management module uses pack-voltage sense channel D to monitor the voltage represented by that section of the hybrid or EV battery pack. P0B1E indicates a fault associated with the D-channel circuit, but the code by itself does not establish whether the sensing circuit, wiring, or connection is responsible.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Voltage sensing circuit fault
  2. Damaged wiring or connector
  3. Poor electrical connection

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced power output or limp mode
  • Charging may fail or be slowed
  • Reduced electric range

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and compare channel D live voltage with the other pack-sense channels to see how the fault presents.
  2. Read related battery and voltage-sense codes to check whether the problem is isolated to channel D or affects multiple readings.
  3. Inspect the channel D connector and accessible wiring for looseness, corrosion, damage, or overheating.
  4. Using the manufacturer's wiring information, check the channel D circuit and connections against specified values.
  5. If the circuit is sound, have the battery monitoring hardware and pack checked by someone equipped to follow the vehicle's high-voltage safety procedures.

Common fixes

  • Reseat a loose channel D connector.
  • Repair damaged or corroded channel D wiring and terminals.
  • Restore a faulty sensing-circuit connection or ground reference.
  • Replace a confirmed faulty channel D sensing component or battery monitoring module.

Can I keep driving?

Power output or charging may be limited, so avoid long trips and heavy loads until the fault is diagnosed. Stop safely if power drops sharply or a high-voltage warning appears.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
