What it means
The generator torque sensor reports a circuit intermittent fault. Generator torque feedback is unreliable.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The generator torque sensor reports torque feedback to the hybrid control system. This code sets when the signal is intermittent, meaning it drops out or becomes unreliable at times rather than remaining consistently high or low.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Torque sensor failed
- Wiring fault
- Connector with intermittent contact under vibration
Symptoms
- Hybrid system or check-engine warning light on
- Intermittent reduction in hybrid power or acceleration
- Possible inconsistent power delivery
How to diagnose it
- Capture freeze-frame data and monitor generator torque sensor live data for dropouts, noting whether they coincide with vibration or changing load.
- Check that the sensor connector is fully seated and inspect its terminals for corrosion, looseness, or poor retention.
- Inspect the harness along its route for chafing or strain, then carefully move it while watching the signal for interruptions.
- Check circuit continuity and reference and ground stability against the manufacturer's specification while reproducing the fault where safe.
- If wiring and connections remain stable, test the generator torque sensor for intermittent internal failure.
Common fixes
- Reseat and secure the generator torque sensor connector.
- Repair chafed or strained wiring and weak terminal contact.
- Repair an unstable reference or ground connection.
- Replace the generator torque sensor if its signal still drops out with stable wiring.
Can I keep driving?
Intermittent generator torque feedback may cause sudden changes in hybrid power. Drive only if output remains predictable, avoid demanding acceleration, and stop if power cuts out or warnings worsen.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
