OBD-II fault code

P0A25: Generator Torque Sensor Circuit High

What it means

The generator torque sensor reports a circuit high fault. Generator torque feedback is unreliable. Wiring faults of this kind typically come from chafing, water ingress at connector seals, or pin push-back — a wiggle test on the harness while the code is active often confirms the location.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The generator torque sensor sends generator torque feedback to the hybrid control system. This code sets when the sensor circuit signal rises above its expected range, which can result from a sensor fault or a circuit signal pulled high.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Torque sensor failed
  2. Wiring fault
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • Hybrid system or check-engine warning light on
  • Reduced hybrid power or acceleration
  • Possible rough or inconsistent power delivery

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and compare the live generator torque sensor signal with operating conditions to confirm that it is high.
  2. Inspect the sensor connector and harness for chafing, moisture, corrosion, or terminals pushed out of position.
  3. With the correct wiring information, check whether the signal wire is shorted to power and inspect for poor terminal contact.
  4. Test the signal, reference, and ground circuits against the manufacturer's specification to locate a wiring or connection fault.
  5. If the circuit is sound, test the generator torque sensor for an output stuck high.

Common fixes

  • Repair a signal wire short to power or other damaged wiring.
  • Clean or replace corroded or poorly seated terminals.
  • Restore proper sensor reference or ground connections.
  • Replace the generator torque sensor if it fails testing after circuit repairs.

Can I keep driving?

A high torque signal can make the hybrid system limit or mismanage power, so avoid hard acceleration and overtaking. Stop safely if power delivery becomes erratic or the vehicle enters limp mode.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
