What it means
The generator torque sensor reports a circuit fault. Generator torque feedback is unreliable.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The generator torque sensor reports torque feedback from the generator side of the hybrid drive. The control module monitors this sensor circuit for a usable signal and sets this general circuit code when the signal path or sensor feedback is faulty, without specifying high, low, or intermittent behavior.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Torque sensor failed
- Wiring fault
Symptoms
- Hybrid system or check-engine warning light on
- Reduced hybrid power or acceleration
- Possible rough or inconsistent power delivery
How to diagnose it
- Read freeze-frame and companion hybrid codes, then observe generator torque sensor data to see whether feedback is missing or implausible.
- Inspect the generator torque sensor connector and nearby harness for loose fit, corrosion, moisture, or physical damage.
- Check the sensor circuit wiring, reference, and ground according to the vehicle wiring information, since a wiring fault can mimic a failed sensor.
- Measure circuit continuity and terminal contact against the manufacturer's specification.
- If wiring and supplies are sound, test the generator torque sensor using the manufacturer's procedure.
Common fixes
- Secure a loose generator torque sensor connector.
- Repair damaged wiring or poor terminal contact in the sensor circuit.
- Restore a faulty reference or ground connection.
- Replace the generator torque sensor if it fails testing with a sound circuit.
Can I keep driving?
The vehicle may limit hybrid power or deliver it inconsistently, so avoid hard acceleration and long trips until the fault is diagnosed. Stop safely if power becomes unpredictable or a hybrid warning escalates.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
