What it means
The gear shift position circuit C reports a circuit fault. Gear shift position feedback is unreliable on this channel.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Gear shift position circuit C carries position feedback from a transmission position sensor to the control module. The module checks whether channel C provides a usable signal. P095A sets when it detects a circuit fault on that specific channel, making position feedback unreliable and potentially causing limp mode.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Position sensor failed
- Wiring fault
Symptoms
- Check engine or transmission warning light on
- Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
- Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
- Slipping or shuddering during gear changes
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and check transmission live data for the reported position on circuit C and any related position channels.
- Inspect the position sensor connector and the circuit C wiring for damage, loose terminals, corrosion, or fluid contamination.
- Check the sensor's supply, ground, and circuit C connection using the manufacturer's wiring information.
- Measure circuit continuity and check for shorts between circuit C and power or ground, following the manufacturer's test procedure.
- If wiring and connections pass, test the gear shift position sensor and replace it only if its circuit C output fails the manufacturer's specification.
Common fixes
- Reconnect or clean the gear shift position sensor connector.
- Repair an open, short, or damaged wire in position circuit C.
- Replace the failed position sensor if its circuit C output is faulty.
- Clear the code and confirm the module receives consistent position feedback and exits limp mode.
Can I keep driving?
Because this fault can put the transmission into limp mode or make gear selection unreliable, avoid driving if the vehicle is stuck in gear or does not respond predictably. If it must be moved, keep the trip short and slow; further operation with incorrect position feedback may worsen shifting problems.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
