What it means
The gear shift position circuit C reports a circuit range/performance fault. Gear shift position feedback is unreliable on this channel.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Gear shift position circuit C carries position feedback from a transmission position sensor to the control module. The module checks whether the signal changes through the expected range as the selector moves. P095B sets when circuit C produces a signal that is present but outside the expected range or does not track movement correctly.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Position sensor failed
- Wiring fault
- Sensor element aged beyond calibration window
Symptoms
- Check engine or transmission warning light on
- Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
- Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
- Slipping or shuddering during gear changes
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and compare live position data for circuit C with selector movement and any related position channels.
- Move the selector through its available positions while observing whether circuit C changes smoothly and reaches the expected states.
- Inspect the position sensor, its connector, and circuit C wiring for wear, damage, loose terminals, or corrosion.
- Check the sensor supply and ground, then measure circuit C output across selector positions against the manufacturer's specification.
- If the sensor output is correct at the sensor but not at the module, test the circuit C harness for resistance, shorts, or poor connections.
Common fixes
- Clean and secure the position sensor connector and repair poor contacts.
- Repair damaged wiring affecting position circuit C.
- Replace a sensor whose circuit C output falls outside the expected range or fails to track selector movement.
- Clear the code and verify position feedback through the selector range and confirm limp mode is no longer active.
Can I keep driving?
Treat this as a transmission fault: avoid driving if the gear display or actual gear does not match the selector, or if the vehicle enters limp mode. A short, cautious trip may be possible if shifting is predictable, but continued driving can lead to missed shifts or slipping.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
