OBD-II fault code

P05A7: Active Grille Air Shutter A Supply Voltage Circuit Low

What it means

Same as P05A6 with supply voltage below the plausible range. Wiring faults of this kind typically come from chafing, water ingress at connector seals, or pin push-back — a wiggle test on the harness while the code is active often confirms the location.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

The active grille air shutter system moves shutters at the front of the vehicle to manage cooling airflow and aerodynamic drag. The control module monitors the supply voltage for shutter circuit A and sets P05A7 when that voltage falls below its plausible range, which can leave the shutters slow or unable to move.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Supply voltage low
  2. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
  3. Harness chafing through insulation

Symptoms

  • Check-engine light
  • Active grille shutter warning, if equipped
  • Shutters may move slowly or stop moving

How to diagnose it

  1. Check freeze-frame data and live shutter data to see when the low supply reading occurs and whether shutter movement is affected.
  2. Inspect circuit A's wiring and connectors for chafing, water ingress, corrosion, loose terminals, or pins pushed back from the connector face.
  3. With the fault present, monitor the circuit A supply while gently moving the harness to check whether the voltage changes or the code returns.
  4. Measure supply voltage and voltage drop through the connector and wiring, then compare the readings with the manufacturer's specification.
  5. If the wiring and connections check out, test the shutter actuator or module supply circuit as directed by the vehicle's wiring information.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure corroded or loose circuit A connector terminals.
  • Repair chafed or damaged supply wiring and protect it from rubbing.
  • Repair a terminal that has backed out of the connector.
  • Replace a failed shutter actuator or related module only after confirming its supply and wiring are sound.

Can I keep driving?

If the vehicle stays at normal temperature and the shutters do not obstruct airflow, a short, gentle drive is usually possible. Watch the temperature gauge, avoid heavy loads or hot conditions, and stop if the engine overheats.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
