OBD-II fault code

P01FE: Turbocharger Outlet Pressure Sensor B Intermittent/Erratic

What it means

The PCM detected an intermittent or erratic signal from Turbocharger Outlet Pressure Sensor B. This code indicates an unstable sensor signal; it does not by itself establish a mechanical boost-control fault.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

Turbocharger outlet pressure Sensor B measures pressure at the second designated turbo outlet sensing point or on the second turbo, depending on the system. P01FE sets when the control module detects an unstable or erratic Sensor B signal, which can result from intermittent electrical contact and does not alone establish a mechanical boost fault.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Connector loose or corroded
  2. Connector with intermittent contact under vibration
  3. Harness routed against vibrating component

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Significant power loss / limp mode
  • Possible blue or black smoke from exhaust
  • Whistling or hissing sound from intake

How to diagnose it

  1. Use a scan tool to save freeze-frame data and watch Sensor B live data for dropouts or sudden jumps while comparing it with Sensor A.
  2. Inspect Sensor B's connector for looseness, corrosion, or terminals that may lose contact with vibration.
  3. Check the Sensor B harness routing for rubbing against vibrating, hot, or moving components and inspect for damaged insulation.
  4. With the vehicle safely stationary, gently move the harness and connector while monitoring the signal for interruptions.
  5. If no intermittent wiring fault appears, inspect the pressure hose and test Sensor B against the manufacturer's specification.

Common fixes

  • Secure a loose Sensor B connector and repair poor terminal contact.
  • Reroute and secure a harness that rubs against a vibrating component.
  • Repair corroded or damaged Sensor B wiring.
  • Replace Sensor B if its signal remains erratic with sound wiring and pressure plumbing.

Can I keep driving?

Drive gently and avoid hard acceleration or towing because an intermittent pressure signal can trigger reduced power without warning. Stop if the engine loses substantial power, produces smoke, or develops unusual turbo noise.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
