What it means
The readings from Turbocharger Outlet Pressure Sensors A and B do not correlate as expected. This code indicates a mismatch between the sensor readings; it does not by itself identify a mechanical boost-control fault.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
Turbocharger outlet pressure Sensors A and B measure pressure at two designated sensing points or turbo outlets, depending on the system. P01FF sets when the control module finds that their readings do not correlate as expected; the mismatch may come from a sensor or pressure path and does not by itself prove a boost-control mechanical fault.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- One pressure sensor has drifted or failed
- Damaged wiring or poor connector contact at a sensor
- Pressure-sensing hose blocked, leaking, or disconnected
- Actual pressure difference caused by an air-path leak
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Significant power loss / limp mode
- Possible blue or black smoke from exhaust
- Whistling or hissing sound from intake
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and compare live Sensor A and Sensor B readings under the same operating conditions.
- With the engine off where appropriate, check whether the two sensors give plausible readings relative to each other and other pressure data.
- Inspect both sensors' connectors and wiring for looseness, corrosion, chafing, or heat damage.
- Check both pressure-sensing hoses or passages for blockage, leaks, disconnection, or incorrect routing.
- If both circuits and pressure paths are sound, investigate air-path leaks and compare sensor readings with an independent pressure measurement using the manufacturer's procedure.
Common fixes
- Reconnect or replace a leaking, blocked, or damaged pressure hose at Sensor A or B.
- Repair damaged wiring or poor connector contact at the sensor with the implausible reading.
- Repair an air-path leak that explains the pressure difference.
- Replace the drifting or failed pressure sensor after confirming the other sensor and its circuit are sound.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid hard acceleration and towing until the pressure mismatch is diagnosed, particularly if the vehicle has reduced power. Stop if smoke, strong hissing, unusual turbo noise, or severe power loss develops.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
