What it means
The PCM detected that Turbocharger Outlet Pressure Sensor B is outside its expected range or performance. This code identifies a sensor reading problem; it does not by itself establish a fault in the wastegate, vanes, hoses, or actuator.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
Turbocharger outlet pressure Sensor B measures pressure at the second designated turbo outlet sensing point or on the second turbo, depending on the system. P01FB sets when the control module finds Sensor B's reading outside its expected range or response; the code points to a sensor-reading plausibility issue and does not by itself prove a boost-control mechanical fault.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Sensor reading drifted
- Sensor element aged beyond calibration window
- Sensor mounting loose - signal damping
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Significant power loss / limp mode
- Possible blue or black smoke from exhaust
- Whistling or hissing sound from intake
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and compare Sensor B live pressure readings with Sensor A and other relevant pressure data across operating conditions.
- Inspect Sensor B's mount and pressure connection for looseness, poor sealing, or a blocked or leaking hose that could damp or distort the reading.
- Check Sensor B wiring and connector for corrosion, loose contact, chafing, or heat damage.
- Verify Sensor B supply, ground, and signal against the manufacturer's specification.
- If the installation and circuit are sound, compare the sensor reading with an independent pressure measurement using the manufacturer's procedure before condemning the sensor.
Common fixes
- Secure Sensor B and its pressure connection if the sensor or mount is loose.
- Repair or replace a blocked, leaking, or damaged pressure hose.
- Repair poor Sensor B wiring or connector contact.
- Replace Sensor B if its reading remains outside the manufacturer's range after installation and circuit checks.
Can I keep driving?
Drive gently and avoid heavy boost or towing until the pressure reading is verified, particularly if power is reduced. Stop if smoke, a strong hissing sound, or severe power loss appears, since those symptoms may indicate a separate air-path problem.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
