OBD-II fault code

P0200: Injector Circuit/Open

What it means

Generic open circuit on the injector circuit (no specific cylinder reported). Often a wiring issue affecting multiple injectors.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The PCM controls the fuel injectors by switching their electrical circuits so they deliver fuel at the commanded times. P0200 indicates an electrical fault in the injector circuitry that the PCM cannot assign to one specific cylinder; a shared supply, harness, connector, or control-driver fault may affect multiple injectors.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Injector wiring or connector fault
  2. Injector circuit open or short
  3. ECU injector driver fault

Symptoms

  • Check-engine light
  • Rough running or engine misfire
  • Reduced engine power
  • Hard starting or stalling

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and scan for injector, misfire, and power-supply codes to see whether the fault appeared across several cylinders or under a particular condition.
  2. Inspect the common injector harness, shared connectors, fuses, and power feeds for loose connections, corrosion, chafing, or heat damage.
  3. Compare live data and, where supported, injector balance or cylinder contribution across cylinders to identify whether several injectors are affected.
  4. With the wiring diagram, check injector supply and control circuits for continuity, shorts, and unwanted resistance, following the manufacturer's specification.
  5. If the shared wiring and feeds test correctly, have the PCM injector-driver outputs checked before considering a module fault.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect or clean a loose or corroded shared injector connector.
  • Repair damaged wiring or a faulty shared power feed.
  • Replace an injector confirmed to have an electrical failure.
  • Repair or replace a PCM only after its injector driver is confirmed faulty.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid driving if the engine is misfiring, stalling, or losing power; an active injector fault can worsen drivability and increase emissions. If it runs smoothly, limit driving and arrange diagnosis soon.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
