OBD-II fault code

P00FB: Turbocharger Outlet Pressure Sensor A Circuit High

What it means

Turbocharger outlet pressure sensor A circuit signal is above the expected range.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

Turbocharger outlet pressure sensor A measures pressure after the compressor, and the control module reads its electrical signal to manage engine operation. This code is set when the signal is higher than expected; an open signal wire, poor connector contact, or a supply wire touching battery positive can cause that condition.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Signal wire open
  2. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
  3. Supply wire pinched against B+ source

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and compare sensor A's outlet-pressure value with other pressure readings to see whether the reported pressure is implausibly high.
  2. Inspect sensor A's connector and harness for corrosion, loose pins, broken conductors, or a pinched wire touching battery positive.
  3. Use the wiring diagram to check for an open signal circuit and inspect the sensor supply and ground connections.
  4. Test the signal and supply circuits against the manufacturer's specification to distinguish an open or shorted wire from a sensor fault.
  5. If the circuit checks out, test sensor A's output and inspect its pressure path for a reading that is mechanically implausible.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect loose terminals or repair corroded connector contacts.
  • Repair an open signal wire or a supply wire pinched against battery positive.
  • Replace damaged wiring and secure the harness away from pinch points.
  • Replace turbocharger outlet pressure sensor A if its output remains too high with a sound circuit.

Can I keep driving?

The code may only illuminate the check-engine light, but an erroneously high outlet-pressure signal can affect boost control. Avoid hard acceleration if the vehicle's power or boost response changes, and have it checked soon.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
