What it means
The control module monitors the electrical signal from fuel pressure sensor A. It sets this code when the signal voltage rises above the expected range.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
Fuel pressure sensor A sends a signal to the control module so it can monitor fuel pressure. This code sets when the signal is higher than expected, which can happen if the signal path is open or a wire is contacting a power source.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire open
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
- Supply wire pinched against B+ source
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Hard start, no start, or stalling under load
- Power loss especially at high load or rpm
- Possible long cranking time
How to diagnose it
- Check freeze-frame and live data to confirm sensor A's signal is high and identify whether it occurs continuously or under particular operating conditions.
- Inspect sensor A's connector for backed-out, loose, or corroded terminals and check the harness for an open circuit or contact with a power wire.
- Use the vehicle wiring diagram to test continuity of the sensor A signal wire and check for an unintended connection to battery positive.
- Check sensor supply and ground circuits against the manufacturer's specifications to rule out a supply fault affecting the signal.
- If the circuit checks out, test sensor A itself against the manufacturer's specifications before replacing it.
Common fixes
- Reconnect or secure a loose sensor A connector.
- Repair an open signal wire or a wire shorted to a power source.
- Clean or repair corroded connector terminals.
- Replace sensor A if its output is still high with a verified circuit.
Can I keep driving?
The control module may misjudge fuel pressure, leading to hard starting, stalling, or power loss. Keep trips short and gentle; stop if the engine stalls or loses power in traffic.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
