OBD-II fault code

P01C8: Fuel Rail/System Pressure - Too Low Bank 2

What it means

Rail pressure on bank 2 below the target operating range. Power loss and possible limp mode.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The control module monitors fuel rail or system pressure for bank 2 and compares it with the pressure target. This code sets when bank 2 pressure is below the expected operating range, which may reflect a supply or regulation problem or a faulty pressure reading.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Fuel supply or pressure regulation problem
  2. Fuel rail pressure sensor or circuit fault

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Reduced engine power or hesitation
  • Hard starting or stalling
  • Possible reduced-power mode

How to diagnose it

  1. Read freeze-frame data and compare commanded and reported bank 2 pressure in live data, noting whether the low reading occurs at idle, during cranking, or under load.
  2. Inspect the bank 2 pressure sensor connector and wiring for damage, loose terminals, or corrosion that could make pressure appear low.
  3. Check fuel supply and pressure regulation for the bank 2 system using the manufacturer's specified procedure.
  4. Compare reported bank 2 pressure with a pressure test performed using the vehicle manufacturer's method to determine whether pressure is actually low.
  5. Test the bank 2 pressure sensor and its circuit against the manufacturer's specifications if measured pressure and scan data disagree.

Common fixes

  • Repair a loose or corroded bank 2 pressure sensor connection.
  • Repair damaged wiring in the bank 2 pressure sensor circuit.
  • Correct a confirmed fuel supply restriction or delivery fault affecting bank 2.
  • Repair a pressure regulator fault if testing identifies one.
  • Replace the bank 2 pressure sensor if its reading fails the manufacturer's checks.

Can I keep driving?

Reduced power or stalling can make merging and crossing traffic unsafe, and the vehicle may enter reduced-power mode. Avoid driving if it cannot maintain speed reliably; continued operation with genuinely low pressure can worsen running problems.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
