What it means
Intermittent signal from fuel pressure sensor B. Wiring faults of this kind typically come from chafing, water ingress at connector seals, or pin push-back — a wiggle test on the harness while the code is active often confirms the location.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
Fuel pressure sensor B reports pressure from its monitored fuel-system location to the engine control module. P018E sets when that signal becomes intermittent or erratic, so the reported pressure may drop out or jump as a loose, chafed, or vibration-affected connection changes.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Connector loose or corroded
- Connector with intermittent contact under vibration
- Harness routed against vibrating component
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Hard start, no start, or stalling under load
- Power loss especially at high load or rpm
- Possible long cranking time
How to diagnose it
- Review freeze-frame data and graph live sensor B pressure for dropouts or sudden jumps, noting whether they occur during starting, acceleration, or vibration.
- Inspect sensor B's connector for looseness, corrosion, moisture, and damaged or pushed-back pins.
- Watch the scan reading while gently moving the connector and harness near sensor B to try to reproduce the interruption.
- Inspect the harness route for rubbing against vibrating components, then test signal, supply, and ground connections while flexing suspect sections.
- If the circuit remains stable, test fuel pressure sensor B under the conditions that trigger the code and replace it if its output becomes erratic.
Common fixes
- Secure the connector and reroute or support the harness away from vibrating parts.
- Repair chafed wiring in the sensor B circuit.
- Clean or replace loose or corroded connector terminals.
- Replace sensor B if its signal remains intermittent with sound wiring and connections.
Can I keep driving?
Limit driving if pressure-related hard starting or power loss is occurring, since it may worsen suddenly under load. Stop if the engine stalls or loses power in traffic.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
