What it means
The control module monitors the electrical signal from fuel pressure sensor A. It sets this code when the signal voltage falls below the expected range.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
Fuel pressure sensor A sends an electrical signal to the control module, which uses it to assess fuel pressure. This code sets when that signal is lower than the module expects, which can result from a short to ground, poor connector contact, or damaged wiring.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
- Harness chafing through insulation
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Hard start, no start, or stalling under load
- Power loss especially at high load or rpm
- Possible long cranking time
How to diagnose it
- Use freeze-frame and live data to confirm sensor A's signal is low and note whether the fault appears during starting, idling, or load.
- With the ignition off, inspect sensor A's connector and wiring for corrosion, loose pins, or insulation rubbed through to ground.
- Check the sensor A signal wire for an unintended connection to ground using the vehicle's wiring diagram and the manufacturer's test procedure.
- Verify sensor power and ground circuits and compare their readings with the manufacturer's specifications.
- If the wiring and supplies are sound, test sensor A's output against the manufacturer's specifications before considering sensor replacement.
Common fixes
- Reconnect a loose sensor A connector and secure the harness.
- Clean or repair corroded connector terminals.
- Repair a signal wire shorted to ground or chafed insulation.
- Replace sensor A if its output remains below specification with a sound circuit.
Can I keep driving?
A low signal can make fuel pressure control unreliable, causing stalling or loss of power. Avoid high-speed or high-load driving, and stop if the engine stalls or cannot maintain power safely.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
