What it means
Generic electrical fault on fuel pressure sensor A (low- or high-pressure side, system-dependent).
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
Fuel pressure sensor A reports pressure from the part of the fuel system where sensor A is fitted; its location may be on the low-pressure or high-pressure side depending on the vehicle. The control module sets this circuit code when sensor A's electrical circuit has a fault, but the code alone does not specify a low or high signal or prove that fuel pressure itself is wrong.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Failed fuel pressure sensor A
- Damaged or corroded sensor connector
- Open or shorted wiring
- Fault in the sensor power or ground circuit
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Hard start, no start, or stalling under load
- Power loss especially at high load or rpm
- Possible long cranking time
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and check live fuel pressure sensor A readings alongside commanded pressure and any available related pressure-sensor data.
- Use vehicle service information to locate sensor A and identify whether it measures low-side or high-side pressure, then inspect its connector and harness.
- Check the sensor A connector for corrosion, loose fit, damaged seals, or pushed-back terminals, and inspect wiring for opens or shorts.
- Verify sensor A's power, ground, and signal against the wiring diagram and manufacturer's specification.
- If its circuit passes inspection, compare sensor A's reported pressure with actual pressure using the vehicle's specified test method before replacing parts.
Common fixes
- Reconnect a loose sensor A connector and clean serviceable terminals.
- Repair damaged wiring or a faulty power or ground connection in sensor A's circuit.
- Replace corroded or damaged sensor A connector terminals.
- Replace fuel pressure sensor A if it fails the manufacturer's tests.
Can I keep driving?
If the engine starts, runs, and responds normally, keep driving limited and avoid heavy loads; stop if it stalls, will not restart, or loses substantial power. Do not open any fuel connection until the vehicle-specific pressure precautions have been followed.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
