What it means
The fuel rail pressure sensor circuit for Bank 2 is reporting a signal above its expected range.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The fuel rail pressure sensor on bank 2 sends an electrical signal to the control module to represent rail pressure. This circuit-high code means the module sees that sensor's signal above its expected electrical range, which can result from an open signal path or a wire shorted to power.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire open
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
- Supply wire pinched against B+ source
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Hard starting or extended cranking
- Rough running or stalling
- Reduced engine power
How to diagnose it
- Review freeze-frame and live data for bank 2 fuel pressure, noting whether the reading is implausibly high or unavailable.
- Inspect the bank 2 sensor connector and harness for an unplugged connection, broken wire, corrosion, backed-out pins, or insulation contacting a power source.
- Check terminal fit and continuity through the bank 2 signal wire to find a loose contact or open circuit.
- Compare bank 2 sensor voltage and reported pressure with the manufacturer's specification and bank 1 data if available.
- Test the bank 2 signal wire for an open or short to power, and verify power and ground connections before replacing the sensor.
Common fixes
- Reconnect and secure a loose bank 2 sensor connector.
- Repair an open signal wire or damaged bank 2 connector terminal.
- Repair wiring shorted to a power source or routed against a power feed.
- Replace the bank 2 fuel rail pressure sensor if it fails the manufacturer's electrical checks after circuit repairs.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid heavy-load or high-speed driving if the engine runs poorly or loses power, and stop if it stalls or becomes difficult to control. Do not open the fuel rail without following the vehicle's pressure-release precautions.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
