What it means
Generic electrical fault on the intake-valve control solenoid for bank 1 (used to switch valve lift, deactivation or VVL profiles).
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
The intake valve control solenoid on bank 1 operates a valve-control mechanism, such as a variable-lift or cylinder-deactivation system where fitted. The control module monitors its electrical circuit and sets P0075 when it detects a fault without identifying a specific low- or high-voltage condition.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Intake valve control solenoid coil failed
- Damaged wiring or connector
- Poor electrical connection
- Solenoid stuck or mechanically binding
Symptoms
- Check-engine light on
- Reduced engine power
- Rough idle or hesitation
- Poor acceleration
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and check for related valve-control codes, then note whether rough idle, hesitation, or reduced power was present.
- Locate the bank 1 intake valve control solenoid using vehicle service information and inspect its connector and wiring for damage, oil, corrosion, or a loose fit.
- Check the solenoid circuit for open wiring, shorts, and poor connections using the wiring diagram and manufacturer's test procedure.
- Measure the bank 1 solenoid coil and compare the result with the manufacturer's specification.
- If the electrical circuit passes, check whether the solenoid or its valve-control mechanism is sticking or binding using the vehicle's service procedure.
Common fixes
- Reconnect the bank 1 intake valve control solenoid connector.
- Repair damaged wiring or poor terminals in the solenoid circuit.
- Replace the bank 1 intake valve control solenoid if its coil fails testing.
- Correct a sticking or binding valve-control mechanism.
Can I keep driving?
A short, gentle drive may be possible if the engine runs smoothly, but reduced power, rough running, or hesitation can make merging and passing unsafe. Avoid hard acceleration and stop if the engine runs severely rough.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
