What it means
The intake (A) camshaft phaser solenoid drive line on bank 2 is stuck low — short to ground or stuck-low driver. Variable-valve timing on intake bank 2 cannot be modulated.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
The bank 2 intake camshaft actuator uses an oil control valve to direct oil to the intake cam phaser and vary valve timing. The control module sets P2092 when the actuator's electrical drive circuit is below its expected voltage range, so intake timing on that bank may not be controllable.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Short to ground in solenoid drive line
- Solenoid winding shorted internally
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Power loss especially in mid-rpm range
- Possible rough idle or stalling
- Increased fuel consumption
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and compare commanded and actual bank 2 intake cam timing to see under what conditions the fault appears.
- Inspect the bank 2 intake oil control valve connector and harness for chafing, crushed insulation, or a wire touching ground.
- Check the valve connector for corrosion, bent terminals, or poor pin contact.
- Test the bank 2 intake actuator drive wire for a short to ground and check the valve winding according to the manufacturer's specification.
- If the circuit and valve pass, test the control module driver using the manufacturer's procedure.
Common fixes
- Clean or repair corroded or poorly seated bank 2 intake actuator connector terminals.
- Repair a bank 2 intake actuator drive wire that is shorted to ground.
- Replace the bank 2 intake oil control valve if its winding is shorted or otherwise fails testing.
- Repair or replace the control module only after confirming its driver is faulty.
Can I keep driving?
A short drive may be possible if the engine is stable, but avoid heavy acceleration because bank 2 intake valve timing may be stuck and power or fuel economy may suffer. Stop driving if it stalls or runs very roughly.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
