OBD-II fault code

C052B: ABS Pump Motor Control Range/Performance

What it means

The ABS module monitors how the pump motor responds to its commands and sets this code when the motor's operation is outside the expected range.

How it works

The ABS pump motor builds hydraulic pressure used by the anti-lock braking system, and the ABS module monitors how the motor responds when commanded. C052B sets when the motor’s operation is outside the expected range or performance, but does not by itself specify an open, high-voltage, or low-voltage circuit.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. ABS pump motor fault
  2. Wiring or connector fault
  3. ABS control module fault

Symptoms

  • ABS warning light on
  • Traction or stability control warning light on
  • ABS functions may be limited

How to diagnose it

  1. Read ABS codes and freeze-frame data to see whether C052B occurs with pump supply, motor circuit, or module faults.
  2. Check ABS live data and commanded pump operation with a suitable scan tool, following the manufacturer’s safety procedure.
  3. Inspect the pump motor connector and accessible wiring for looseness, corrosion, heat damage, or chafing.
  4. Check the pump motor’s power and ground and the relevant circuit response against the manufacturer’s specification.
  5. If supply, ground, and wiring pass, use the manufacturer’s procedure to determine whether the pump motor or ABS module is responsible.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect or repair a damaged ABS pump motor connector or harness.
  • Repair a faulty motor power or ground connection.
  • Replace the ABS pump motor if testing confirms it does not respond within specification.
  • Repair or replace the ABS control module if its fault is confirmed.

Can I keep driving?

The ABS warning may mean anti-lock braking is limited, although conventional braking may remain available. Drive cautiously, leave extra stopping distance, and avoid hard braking or slippery roads; stop if braking feels abnormal.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
