What it means
The ABS module monitors the pump motor control circuit and sets this code when it detects an open circuit.
How it works
The ABS pump motor moves brake fluid during anti-lock braking, and the ABS module monitors the electrical path that controls the motor. C052C sets when that control circuit is open, meaning the module detects a break or loss of continuity rather than a high- or low-voltage condition.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Open or damaged wiring
- Loose or damaged connector
- ABS control module fault
Symptoms
- ABS warning light on
- Traction or stability control warning light on
- ABS functions may be limited
How to diagnose it
- Read ABS codes and freeze-frame data to check whether the open-circuit fault appeared with other pump motor or module faults.
- Inspect the pump motor connector and harness for a disconnected plug, broken conductor, corrosion, or physical damage.
- Check the relevant circuit continuity and connector contact condition using the manufacturer’s wiring diagram and procedure.
- Check the circuit’s power and ground paths as specified by the manufacturer to locate where continuity is lost.
- If the wiring and connections are intact, use the manufacturer’s diagnostic procedure to determine whether the ABS control module has failed.
Common fixes
- Reconnect a disconnected ABS pump motor plug.
- Repair a broken or damaged wire in the pump motor control circuit.
- Clean or replace a damaged connector or terminal that is interrupting continuity.
- Repair or replace the ABS control module if testing confirms it is not completing the circuit.
Can I keep driving?
ABS may be limited or unavailable, while conventional braking may still work. Drive cautiously, allow extra stopping distance, and avoid hard braking or slippery conditions; stop if the brake pedal or braking response changes.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
