OBD-II fault code

C0011: Left Front Outlet Control

What it means

The ABS monitors the left front outlet valve, which releases hydraulic pressure from that wheel during ABS operation. It sets this code when the valve circuit or operation does not meet the expected electrical or functional checks.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the ABS or stability-control warning light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The left front outlet valve in the ABS hydraulic unit releases pressure from the left front brake circuit during ABS operation. The module monitors its circuit and ability to release pressure, and sets C0011 when its electrical response or function fails the expected checks.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Faulty or stuck outlet valve
  2. Open or shorted valve wiring
  3. Loose or corroded connector
  4. ABS hydraulic control unit fault
  5. Hydraulic contamination or restriction

Symptoms

  • ABS warning light on
  • ESC/stability control deactivated
  • Possible reduced brake assist
  • Speedometer may behave erratically

How to diagnose it

  1. Read ABS module codes and freeze-frame data to identify when the left front outlet-control fault occurred and whether related voltage or valve codes are stored.
  2. Inspect the ABS unit connector and the wiring for the left front outlet valve for corrosion, loose pins, chafing, or damage.
  3. Use a compatible scan tool to command the left front outlet valve, if supported, and check for the module’s expected response.
  4. With the system disabled according to the manufacturer’s procedure, test the left front outlet circuit for opens and shorts and compare the coil with the manufacturer’s specification.
  5. If electrical checks pass, investigate a stuck outlet valve or restricted, contaminated hydraulic passage before considering an ABS unit fault.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure the left front outlet-valve connector or repair damaged wiring.
  • Replace the left front outlet valve if it is separately serviceable and proven faulty.
  • Correct contaminated fluid or a restricted passage using the manufacturer’s procedure.
  • Repair or replace the ABS hydraulic control unit if testing confirms an internal failure.

Can I keep driving?

Braking may remain available, but ABS and stability control can be disabled and brake assistance may be reduced. Avoid slippery roads and hard braking, and stop if braking feels abnormal or a wheel does not release normally.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
