OBD-II fault code

C0014: Right Front Inlet Control

What it means

The ABS monitors the right front inlet valve, which controls hydraulic pressure applied to that wheel during braking and stability control. It sets this code when the valve circuit or operation does not meet the expected electrical or functional checks.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the ABS or stability-control warning light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The right front inlet valve in the ABS hydraulic unit controls pressure entering the right front brake circuit during ABS or stability control. The module monitors that valve’s circuit and operation, and sets C0014 when the electrical response or hydraulic function does not meet its checks.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Faulty or stuck inlet valve
  2. Open or shorted valve wiring
  3. Loose or corroded connector
  4. ABS hydraulic control unit fault
  5. Hydraulic contamination or restriction

Symptoms

  • ABS warning light on
  • ESC/stability control deactivated
  • Possible reduced brake assist
  • Speedometer may behave erratically

How to diagnose it

  1. Read ABS module codes and freeze-frame data to see when the right front inlet-control fault occurred and whether other wheel-valve or voltage codes are present.
  2. Inspect the ABS unit connector and the right front inlet-valve wiring for corrosion, loose connections, rubbing, or damage.
  3. Use a compatible scan tool to command the right front inlet valve, if supported, and observe whether the module reports the expected response.
  4. With the system disabled according to the manufacturer’s procedure, check the right front inlet circuit for opens or shorts and compare the valve coil with the manufacturer’s specification.
  5. If the circuit and coil pass, investigate a sticking valve, contaminated fluid, or restricted passage before condemning the ABS hydraulic unit.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure the right front inlet-valve connector or repair its wiring.
  • Replace the right front inlet valve if it is serviceable separately and testing identifies it as faulty.
  • Address contaminated brake fluid or a restricted hydraulic passage using the manufacturer’s procedure.
  • Repair or replace the ABS hydraulic control unit if tests confirm an internal failure.

Can I keep driving?

Normal braking may still work, but ABS and stability control may be unavailable and brake assistance may be reduced. Drive cautiously only if braking feels normal, avoid slippery roads, and stop if pedal feel or braking changes.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
