OBD-II fault code

C001D: Right Rear Outlet Control

What it means

The ABS module monitors the right rear outlet valve, which releases hydraulic pressure from that wheel. It sets this code when the valve circuit or operation does not respond as expected.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the ABS or stability-control warning light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The ABS hydraulic unit uses the right rear outlet valve to release pressure from that wheel during ABS or stability-control operation. The ABS module stores C001D when the right rear outlet-valve circuit or response does not meet expected conditions.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Outlet valve coil failure
  2. Valve stuck or contaminated
  3. Damaged wiring or connector
  4. ABS module fault

Symptoms

  • ABS warning light on
  • ESC/stability control deactivated
  • Possible reduced brake assist
  • Speedometer may behave erratically

How to diagnose it

  1. Read ABS-module codes and freeze-frame data to see when the right rear outlet-control fault occurred and whether other hydraulic or wheel faults are present.
  2. Inspect the right rear outlet-valve connector and harness for corrosion, loose pins, chafing, or damage.
  3. Check ABS power and grounds, which can affect valve control across the hydraulic unit.
  4. Test the right rear outlet-valve circuit for continuity and shorts using the manufacturer’s procedure.
  5. If wiring is intact, test the valve coil and commanded response to identify an electrical failure or a sticking valve.
  6. Consider an ABS module fault only after the right rear valve, circuit, connectors, power, and grounds have been checked.

Common fixes

  • Repair damaged wiring or clean and secure the right rear outlet-valve connector.
  • Correct a faulty ABS power or ground connection.
  • Replace the failed right rear outlet-valve coil or valve if testing confirms it.
  • Repair or replace the ABS hydraulic unit if the right rear outlet valve is stuck internally.
  • Repair the ABS module only after its control output is confirmed faulty.

Can I keep driving?

Normal braking may remain, but ABS and stability control can be unavailable, making wheel lock more likely during hard braking or on slippery roads. Drive cautiously and arrange prompt diagnosis; stop if braking feels abnormal or a brake warning appears.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
