OBD-II fault code

B0131: A/V Sensor Washer Fluid C Control Circuit

What it means

The control module monitors the control circuit for A/V sensor washer fluid pump C. It sets this code when the circuit’s electrical response is outside the expected range or the pump does not respond as commanded.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the airbag (SRS) or body-system warning light

How it works

The A/V sensor washer system uses pump C to send cleaning fluid to an audio/video sensor lens. The control module monitors pump C’s control circuit and sets B0131 when its electrical response is outside the expected range or pump C does not respond to a command.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Failed washer fluid pump
  2. Open or shorted pump wiring
  3. Loose or corroded connector
  4. Blown fuse or power supply fault
  5. Blocked pump or washer-fluid passage

Symptoms

  • Warning light or symbol related to the affected system
  • Comfort or safety function impaired

How to diagnose it

  1. Review freeze-frame data and scan for other A/V sensor washer codes to see whether the fault is specific to pump C.
  2. Check the fluid level, then command pump C with a scan tool if supported and listen for the pump or observe whether fluid reaches its sensor nozzle.
  3. Inspect pump C’s wiring and connector for chafing, loose fit, corrosion, or fluid intrusion.
  4. Check the fuse, power, ground, and control circuit for pump C against the wiring diagram and manufacturer’s specification.
  5. If electrical checks pass, inspect the pump and the hose and nozzle in pump C’s fluid path for blockage.

Common fixes

  • Top up the washer reservoir if low.
  • Clear a blocked hose or nozzle in pump C’s path to the A/V sensor.
  • Repair damaged, open, shorted, or corroded wiring at pump C.
  • Replace a failed fuse after finding and addressing the reason it opened.
  • Replace pump C if it fails to operate despite correct power, ground, and control.

Can I keep driving?

Driving is usually possible, but the A/V sensor cleaned by pump C may become obscured and its associated assistance feature may be unavailable or less reliable. Clean the sensor as needed and do not depend on that feature until the washer works.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
