What was the Renault Alliance?

The Alliance was Renault’s version of the Renault 9 for North America, adapted for local customers. It was assembled at AMC’s Kenosha plant in Wisconsin and distributed by AMC. Renault described the Renault 9 as a versatile family car; the Alliance brought that model into the company’s North American range.

The Alliance generation (X42) ran from 1983 to 1987. US EPA figures cover model years 1984 to 1987 and include petrol engines from 1.4 L to 2.2 L.
