What is the WEY 05?

The WEY 05 is a five-door SUV from Great Wall Motor’s WEY line, the company’s premium SUV brand. Its plug-in hybrid powertrain can use electric power for some journeys when the battery is charged.

In Europe, the model first appeared as the WEY Coffee 01 before taking the name GWM WEY 05. Great Wall Motor also makes passenger cars and pickups alongside SUVs.

Generation, engines and power

The first generation began in 2024. EU registrations include a 2.0 L plug-in hybrid and a 2.0 L hybrid, each with a stated engine output of 150 kW (204 PS). A plug-in hybrid can be charged externally and use electric power for some driving; a hybrid manages electric assistance through its onboard system.

The plug-in hybrid accounts for the largest listed registration totals.

How economical is the WEY 05?

The lowest official weighted consumption figure for the plug-in hybrid is 0.6 L/100 km on WLTP. This figure assumes some test driving is electric, so actual fuel use depends on charging and how much of a journey is driven electrically.

The WEY 05 recorded 284 EU registrations from 2024 to 2025. European WLTP and NEDC procedures differ from the EPA tests used in the USA and Canada’s 5-cycle procedure, so results are not directly comparable.
