OBD-II fault code

U3029: Control Module A Disable Feedback Circuit Low

What it means

Disable feedback line A voltage below expected range. A communication loss with this module breaks any function relying on its data — diagnostic tools may show 'no response' and dependent modules can fall into limp mode.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the warning light of the system that lost communication

How it works

The disable feedback line tells the gateway whether Control Module A has entered or left its requested safe state. This code means the feedback voltage is below the expected range, often because the line is shorted to ground, so the reported state may be unreliable.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Wiring shorted to ground
  2. Gateway module routing CAN messages incorrectly
  3. CAN terminating resistor (120 Ω) drifted out of spec

Symptoms

  • Multiple warning lights may illuminate
  • Affected modules may go into limp mode or shut down
  • Specific functions inoperative depending on module
  • Diagnostic tools may show communication faults

How to diagnose it

  1. Record all module codes and freeze-frame details, checking for related low-voltage and communication faults.
  2. Use a scan tool to compare the gateway's disable command with Control Module A's feedback status and confirm whether the module responds.
  3. Inspect the feedback-line harness and connectors for chafing, pinched insulation, moisture, or a grounded wire.
  4. Following the manufacturer's isolation procedure, test feedback-line voltage and check for a short to ground.
  5. If the circuit checks out, test gateway routing and CAN termination using the manufacturer's network procedure.

Common fixes

  • Repair feedback wiring that is shorted to ground.
  • Clean and secure a corroded or loose feedback connector.
  • Correct a confirmed gateway routing or status-handling fault.
  • Repair CAN termination if testing shows it is outside the manufacturer's specification.

Can I keep driving?

Do not drive if the fault accompanies a module shutdown, limp mode, or an unreliable essential function. Otherwise, limit driving because the gateway may receive a false or missing confirmation of Control Module A's state.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
