OBD-II fault code

U3028: Control Module A Disable Feedback Circuit

What it means

Generic fault on the feedback line that confirms the module has entered/exited disabled state. A communication loss with this module breaks any function relying on its data — diagnostic tools may show 'no response' and dependent modules can fall into limp mode.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the warning light of the system that lost communication

How it works

A disable feedback circuit reports whether Control Module A has entered or left its requested safe state. This code indicates a general fault on that feedback path, so the gateway may not be able to confirm the module's state even if its disable command was sent.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Feedback wire fault
  2. Gateway module routing CAN messages incorrectly
  3. CAN terminating resistor (120 Ω) drifted out of spec

Symptoms

  • Multiple warning lights may illuminate
  • Affected modules may go into limp mode or shut down
  • Specific functions inoperative depending on module
  • Diagnostic tools may show communication faults

How to diagnose it

  1. Record all module codes and freeze-frame details, noting whether communication faults or disable-state mismatches occur together.
  2. Use a scan tool to compare the gateway's disable command with Control Module A's reported state and check whether the module responds.
  3. Inspect the feedback wire and both endpoint connectors for loose pins, corrosion, breaks, or damage.
  4. Test feedback-wire continuity and check for shorts to ground or power using the manufacturer's isolation and circuit procedure.
  5. If the feedback circuit passes, investigate gateway status handling and CAN termination against the manufacturer's specifications.

Common fixes

  • Repair a damaged or open disable feedback wire.
  • Clean, secure, or replace a faulty feedback-circuit connector.
  • Correct a confirmed gateway routing or status-handling fault.
  • Repair a CAN termination problem if testing confirms it is out of specification.

Can I keep driving?

If a module has shut down or an essential function is affected, stop driving until the vehicle can operate safely. If it behaves normally, limit use because the gateway may not be able to verify Control Module A's safe-state status.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
