OBD-II fault code

U0227: Lost Communication With Door Window Motor F

What it means

A control module has stopped receiving expected messages from door window motor F. The code identifies the communication loss; it does not establish the cause or which window functions are affected.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the warning light of the system that lost communication

How it works

Door window motor F is associated with a power window and can communicate operating information to other vehicle modules. U0227 sets when the reporting module no longer receives expected messages from motor F; it does not identify whether the fault is in the motor, its power or ground, or the network wiring.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Loss of power or ground to the motor
  2. Open, shorted, or damaged network wiring or connector
  3. Failed motor or control module

Symptoms

  • Window operation may be unavailable or limited
  • A communication fault may be stored; a warning may appear depending on the vehicle

How to diagnose it

  1. Read codes from all modules and check freeze-frame data for low voltage or other communication faults involving motor F.
  2. Operate the window controlled by motor F and note whether it fails from every control or only intermittently.
  3. Inspect motor F's connector and door harness for corrosion, loose terminals, water damage, or wires broken at the flex point.
  4. Using the vehicle wiring information, test motor F's power and ground and check network wiring for opens or shorts.
  5. If the supply and network path are sound, test motor F's operation and communication according to the manufacturer's procedure.

Common fixes

  • Recharge the battery if low voltage is recorded.
  • Clean, reseat, or secure motor F's connector.
  • Repair damaged harness wiring or restore the motor's power or ground.
  • Repair a confirmed communication wiring fault affecting motor F.
  • Replace motor F or its control component if testing confirms a failure.

Can I keep driving?

Driving is usually possible if the window is securely closed or otherwise safely positioned. Avoid relying on it to move while driving, since it may remain open and affect visibility, weather protection, or security.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
