OBD-II fault code

U0224: Lost Communication With Door Window Motor C

What it means

A control module has stopped receiving expected messages from door window motor C. The code identifies the communication loss; it does not establish the cause or which window functions are affected.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the warning light of the system that lost communication

How it works

Door window motor C operates a power window and may exchange status or control messages with other modules. U0224 sets when a control module no longer receives the expected messages from motor C, but it does not establish whether the cause is the motor, its power or ground, or network wiring.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Loss of power or ground to the motor
  2. Open, shorted, or damaged network wiring or connector
  3. Failed motor or control module

Symptoms

  • Window operation may be unavailable or limited
  • A communication fault may be stored; a warning may appear depending on the vehicle

How to diagnose it

  1. Read codes across the vehicle and review freeze-frame data for low battery voltage or related communication faults.
  2. Try the window operated by motor C from its available controls and record whether it is inoperative, limited, or intermittent.
  3. Inspect motor C's connector and door harness for corrosion, loose connections, water damage, or broken wires at the flex point.
  4. With the wiring information, verify motor C's power and ground and test the network path for an open or short.
  5. If the electrical checks are sound, test motor C and its control communication using the manufacturer's procedure.

Common fixes

  • Charge the battery if voltage was low when the fault occurred.
  • Clean, reconnect, or secure motor C's connector.
  • Repair damaged wiring or restore the motor's power or ground.
  • Repair a confirmed communication wiring fault affecting motor C.
  • Replace motor C or its control component if testing shows it has failed.

Can I keep driving?

Driving is usually possible if the window is safely closed or secured, but do not rely on motor C to raise it during the trip. A window stuck open can affect visibility, expose the cabin to weather, and reduce security.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
