What it means
A control module is not receiving expected messages from Restraints System Sensor F. The code indicates a communication fault; the sensor's specific role depends on the vehicle.
At a glance
- Usually lights the warning light of the system that lost communication
How it works
Restraints System Sensor F communicates restraint-related information to other vehicle modules, with its specific role depending on the vehicle. U0175 sets when a control module stops receiving the expected messages from Sensor F within the required time.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Sensor unpowered or wiring broken
- Gateway module routing CAN messages incorrectly
- CAN terminating resistor (120 Ω) drifted out of spec
Symptoms
- Airbag or restraint-system warning
- Restraint functions associated with the sensor may be impaired
- Other communication codes
How to diagnose it
- Scan the restraint system and related modules for additional communication faults, and record when the warning or code first appeared.
- Check battery and charging condition for a voltage problem that may have interrupted Sensor F communication.
- Following the manufacturer's restraint-system safety procedure, inspect Sensor F’s connector and harness for loose, corroded, or damaged connections.
- Verify power and ground at Sensor F using the manufacturer's specification.
- If its supplies are good, test the CAN path and gateway routing, then assess Sensor F for failure.
Common fixes
- Repair a weak battery or poor battery connection.
- Secure Sensor F’s connector or repair its damaged wiring.
- Repair the power or ground circuit supplying Sensor F.
- Correct a CAN or gateway fault, or replace Sensor F if testing confirms it is faulty.
Can I keep driving?
Some restraint functions associated with Sensor F may not work while communication is lost. Keep driving to a minimum and arrange prompt diagnosis, using the required precautions around restraint-system wiring.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
