What it means
Bus D low-side line voltage above expected range. A communication loss with this module breaks any function relying on its data — diagnostic tools may show 'no response' and dependent modules can fall into limp mode.
At a glance
- Usually lights the warning light of the system that lost communication
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Vehicle communication bus D uses positive and negative conductors to exchange messages among connected modules. U0062 is set when the negative (low-side) line is above its expected electrical range, making communication on the affected bus unreliable.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Wire shorted to battery
- Gateway module routing CAN messages incorrectly
- CAN terminating resistor (120 Ω) drifted out of spec
Symptoms
- Multiple warning lights may illuminate
- Affected modules may go into limp mode or shut down
- Specific functions inoperative depending on module
- Diagnostic tools may show communication faults
How to diagnose it
- Record all module codes and freeze-frame data, noting any simultaneous bus D communication or line-voltage faults.
- Identify nonresponding bus D modules and check whether the fault appears across several nodes.
- Inspect the bus D negative wire and connectors for contact with a battery feed, bridged pins, or damaged insulation.
- With power isolated as specified by the manufacturer, test for an unintended battery-voltage connection to the negative conductor and inspect the affected wire sections.
- Check bus D termination and gateway routing against the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure after excluding wiring damage.
Common fixes
- Repair insulation damage where the bus D negative line contacts a battery feed.
- Correct bridged connector pins or replace a damaged connector affecting the negative line.
- Repair a termination fault if bus D measurements are outside the manufacturer's specification.
- Repair or replace the gateway only if tests establish that it is routing messages incorrectly.
Can I keep driving?
Limit driving if bus D linked systems are malfunctioning, since communication loss can disable features or cause a module to enter limp mode. Stop if an essential system becomes unreliable, as more functions may be affected.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
