OBD-II fault code

P2EAA: Active Radiator Air Flow Control Module A Control Circuit Performance

What it means

The active radiator air flow control module A reports a control circuit performance condition. Active grille shutter operation is impaired.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

Active radiator air-flow control module A controls the grille shutters that regulate air entering the radiator area. The vehicle monitors the module's control-circuit response and sets this code when that response is slower or otherwise outside its expected performance, potentially because of a high-resistance contact.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Module response slower than calibrated
  2. High-resistance contact

Symptoms

  • Check-engine warning light
  • Active grille shutters may not open or close as expected

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and use a scan tool to compare commanded shutter position with module response or reported position.
  2. Inspect the grille shutters and module A connector for debris, corrosion, loose pins, or damaged wiring that could add resistance.
  3. Check for binding shutters or an obstruction that could slow the module's response.
  4. Test module A power, ground, and control-circuit connections for excessive resistance using the manufacturer's specification.
  5. If the wiring and shutters move freely, command the shutters with a scan tool and assess whether module A responds consistently.

Common fixes

  • Clear debris or an obstruction from the grille shutters.
  • Clean and secure a loose or corroded module A connector.
  • Repair damaged wiring or a high-resistance connection in the module A control circuit.
  • Replace a sluggish shutter actuator or module A if testing confirms it is faulty.

Can I keep driving?

Usually, a short trip is possible if the engine temperature remains normal and no other warning appears. Watch the temperature gauge and avoid heavy loads or prolonged driving in hot conditions because impaired shutter control can affect cooling.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
